Our Philosophies

Mission
At CCSG, we seek to prepare middle school girls from low-income families for a rapidly changing world and encourage them to pursue higher education.  We seek to present a demanding environment for learning while offering the attention to help girls succeed. Scholars are taught to think and question and to create and solve.  We seek to build an atmosphere that fosters respect and values differences, teaches community service, honors environmental stewardship, builds technological skills, allows for discovery, and encourages life-long learning.

Philosophy of Curriculum
At CCSG, education is engaging. Small class sizes ensure that scholars are individually heard and learning styles are appropriately addressed. An experiential curriculum fires imaginations and weaves core content in interesting ways. Technology is used on a daily basis.  Our curriculum encourages self-expression and employs a variety of approaches to achieving academic excellence.

Philosophy of Teaching
At CCSG, teachers seek to make scholars feel loved and honored, proud and powerful.  All teachers engage scholars in conversation, discuss current events, emphasize civic duties and responsibilities, and encourage scholars to articulate thoughts, beliefs, and feelings.  Our teachers care deeply about our scholars

Philosophy of Community
Scholars, staff, and families create a welcoming and inclusive environment.  Parent involvement is a key component of the school.  Scholars have opportunities to interact with community leaders, non-profit groups, senior citizens’ organizations, professional artists, environmental educators, and others on a regular basis.  Scholars quickly learn about what it means to be a community.

Philosophy of Citizenship
Responsibility, compassion and integrity are essential to the mission of CCSG. Scholars serve the community in a variety of ways.  They are guided toward self-discipline and encouraged to make thoughtful decisions in which they are attentive to themselves and the community. By promoting a kind, considerate, and emotionally safe environment, we help scholars develop a positive self-image and confident attitude that will make them productive citizens.

Philosophy of Stewardship

CCSG holds as a primary concern the promotion of human accountability and responsibility toward the earth and its resources.  Scholars are guided toward a deeper appreciation of human interrelatedness to, and reliance on, the earth.   By helping scholars become more aware of the issues related to the environmental crises facing our world, we help scholars return to their community with an understanding of environmental stewardship.
