CCSG Faculty 2010-11
Heather Britt has been a committed educator for over 15 years. She has taught in varied settings from middle school to college, from mountains to cities, from the east coast to the west. Her advocacy started at an early age when in 1979, she argued to play baseball on the boys’ team instead of play on the girls’ softball team. She won that battle and has tried to continue groundbreaking efforts ever since. Ms. Britt is the youngest of five children, raised in Upstate NY. Upon graduation from an all-girls’ high school, Ms. Britt attended State University of New York at Albany where she earned a BA in English with a minor in philosophy and women’s studies. In 1994, she earned an M.Ed. from Harvard University. As a first generation college graduate, she is particularly proud of her studies at Harvard. After earning her Masters, Ms. Britt taught high school English for six years before being recruited to help open a school in Colorado. Her experiences at the Mountain School helped her to make the world the classroom for herself and her students. Ms. Britt moved to Charlotte in 2006 and taught in several CMS schools. She is currently finishing her PhD in Urban Education at UNC Charlotte and will graduate in June 2011. Ms. Britt has received many awards including: Outstanding Teacher Award, Columbia University, and the Excellence in Teaching Award from Harvard College. The best accolades have come from former students and parents who credit her with making a positive impact in their lives.
Ms. Britt is committed to making CCSG a welcoming, challenging, supportive and transformational experience for all scholars.
