Philosophy of Reading

Reading is fundamental.  It is part of our civic responsibility. It is what allows our scholars to become informed decision makers and leaders.  Our teachers and staff discuss books and other written materials with our scholars in casual conversations as well as in the classroom.  By reading with and around our scholars, we show scholars that reading is enjoyable and it is an opportunity for scholars to travel beyond the classroom walls.

Philosophy of Writing

Writing is key to critical, ethical, and creative thinking.  All faculty and staff infuse writing into daily curricula.  We meet with writers from diverse professions and backgrounds to give our scholars opportunities to explore the importance of writing and communicating.  Scholars develop an authentic voice and they see written expression as an opportunity to be civically responsible.

Philosophy of History/Culture

History is a gift to the present.  It presents the opportunity to examine how humans behave and how the world works.   It allows us to explore issues of justice, fairness, and equity.  It allows us to uncover patterns and discover meaning.  We encourage scholars to find meaning in history by examining cultures of the past and present.

Philosophy of Language

In today's international world, it is vital to speak more than one language.  Singing, playing, composing and creating present opportunities for scholars to learn a second language.  Our scholars acquire a second language through immersion in a fun, interactive, and entertaining program.

Philosophy of Math

Math presents an opportunity to study the universe.  Scholars learn by doing math.  Scholars solve problems to apply mathematics but also to learn new mathematics.  We explore math from many angles and expose scholars to math history and literature to make math come alive.

Philosophy of Science

Our scholars experiment and explore.  They learn science indoors and outside.  They experience and explore the natural world.   Science is more than the work that occurs in a laboratory.   Scholars at CCSG learn that science, engineering, and technology are intricately linked to other fields: arts, literature, history, geography, mathematics, writing, law and politics.

Philosophy of the Arts

Our visual arts, drama, dance, and music programs are designed to encourage scholars to approach art in their own way.  Scholars learn to think critically through investigating the arts.  We encourage our scholars to find connections between art and culture, technology, philosophy, writing, history, language, science, math, law and politics.

Philosophy of Technology

Technology is our future.  Our scholars use technology daily.  They explore the strengths and weaknesses of technology and evaluate its role in our societies over time.  We invite scholars to explore connections between art, culture, research, writing, history, language, math, science, law, politics and technology.

Philosophy of Physical Education

Our emphasis in the Physical Education Program is on promoting a life-long love of exercise and healthy living while encouraging our scholars to develop self-respect.  We focus on sportsmanship, teamwork, cooperation and acceptance.  We use physical education as an opportunity to explore health and culture and address physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual well-being.
